Welcome to Year 11 & 12 at Collingwood College

VCE

There is a tradition of achievement at Collingwood College, which students can enjoy. In our College we expect success in studies. This is based on our knowledge of our students, about what they can achieve and what they need to develop in terms of self-efficacy and the belief that they can succeed.

  • Students are working with teachers and students they know, and who know them; and
  • Students build relationships with a range of other students and teachers from the College and Fitzroy High School with whom we partner in offering a comprehensive VCE course.

Opportunity: University, Scores in the 40s, Kwong Lee Dow Scholars, Scholarships

The opportunity for success is found in College teachers and the College community, which supports students in every possible way to succeed in their studies. Among our top students are those taking Commerce and Biomedical Research at Monash University, and Optometry at Deakin University. We obtain individual study scores in the 40s along with University entrance scores (ATARs) in the 90s and high 80s. Among the opportunities open to our students is the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program, at the University of Melbourne. This year, Meg Gome, is the Kwong Lee Dow scholar. One of our students, Erik Ly was a recipient of the John Cummins Memorial Scholarship, for 2015. As well, the prestigious Skyline Scholarship, is held by three of our students, Oscar O’Brien, Brahmony McCrossin and Adbifatah Abdi.

Tertiary Places

Our students will go on to further study and they have succeeded in finding the courses of their choice. The VCE success we enjoy can be measured in the number of students that find places in tertiary institutions of their choice. Over 90% of our students receive tertiary offers. These include places as follows:

  • Arts, University of Melbourne
  • Building Design, Swinburne University
  • Biomedical Science, Monash University
  • Commerce, MIBT( Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology)
  • Commerce, Monash University
  • Communication Design RMIT
  • Health Sciences, Latrobe University
  • Nursing, Latrobe University
  • Optometry, Deakin University

A Specific Practical Advantage in Studying at Collingwood College

The College has the added advantage over many other schools of programs for gaining entry with Access Melbourne (the University of Melbourne), SNAP for RMIT, and SALT for Latrobe. These programs give Collingwood College students assistance in seeking to attend one of these prestigious institutions.

VCAL

Collingwood College offers the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) for students who want to finish school with a certificate but do not intend immediately to enter university but who prefer to consider further education at TAFE or to begin work or to seek an apprenticeship.

Year 10

We encourage Year 10 students to undertake a VET and/or VCE subject where there is interest, motivation and a strong record of application to studies.

Any inquiries or further questions are welcome.
