Collingwood College offers students an exciting and challenging music program across both instrumental and classroom based approaches.
Our innovative music programs place a positive emphasis on performance and presentation, helping students to develop confidence, social skills, discipline, team work and self esteem. Students regularly perform in class, assemblies, concerts, and special events in the region or wider community.
We have a proud record of high achievement amongst our graduates, with very competitive results that have seen our students successfully progress to a wide range of tertiary music studies and performance contexts. Past and present students perform widely in the Melbourne music scene and beyond, in acts such as:
Charm of Finches
Georgia Spain
Two Steps On The Water
Milton Brows
Ellis Kempken
Bridge City Night Adventure
Classroom Music
Classroom music is a core subject from Prep to Year 9, with our specialist Performing Arts and Steiner classroom programs providing an excellent music and performative platform across the primary school. An optional Songwriting elective is also offered across Year 8 – 10. The curriculum is designed to be balanced, and covers the history of music, theory, ‘hands-on’ instrumental application, aural studies, notation, composition and performance.
In the senior years, students have the exciting opportunity to build upon their previous knowledge areas and look towards careers and further study in music, via our VCE Music Performance subjects.
Music tuition and performance
Instrumental tuition is offered in both individual and small group settings. Students also have the opportunity to be a part of an orchestra or bands, with many students forming rock and pop groups during our casual, lunchtime rehearsal program.
All Steiner students from Class 3 until the end of Class 6 learn a stringed instrument and participate in a class orchestra and school ensembles.
